gloucester rd, bs7, is one of the most thriving centres of independent shopping in bristol, probably the uk

built in 1817, it is part of the a38 that leads into gloucester

until at least 1880 it was known as horfield road, part of the great northern road

by the 1900s gloucester road was an important shopping area, selling goods of every kind, but if you wanted to look elsewhere trams took you straight into the centre of the city

the hobgoblin pub on gloucester rd was originally the royal hotel and then the gloucester for a long time

it was ‘pub of the week’ in the bristol evening post as recently as february 2010 but is currently closed down

drinking holes such as the the prince of wales, the flyer, golden lion and the royal oak remain. i do my best to help keep them in business 😉
